How and to what extent does ‘femininity’ correlate to ‘female bodies’? — What determines the movements of ‘female bodies’? — If without those factors, will female bodies move freely?
In Thai society where patriarchy is firmly rooted and manifests itself through cultures and the state’s authority, several tools and means are used to submerge, violate and control the people. Conceived by Sasapin Siriwanij, a female artist with a career-long passion for body movements and empowerment, this performance is a creation exclusively with female bodies. These bodies are suppressed by the state, gender biases, and self-imposed views on femininity, but, at the same time, they are so meaningful that they can lead to diverse, endless possibilities.
‘Vessel’ is an invitation to reflect on the body’s ability to contain memories and life experiences. Finding themselves in a ‘safe space,’ the all-female ensemble of dancers and non-dancers, will show how their liberated bodies move.
