A dance performance accompanying a reading of the Constitution by Sasapinthu Sirivanich.
By The Book [ meaning according to the principles, according to the rules ], an expression referring to being faithful to rules or principles in carrying out something. It could refer to playing a game, a competition, or choosing how to live.
But in 2023, when Thai politics turns every day as if without principles, two female dancers wonder: The 2017 Constitution, the largest legal text that covers every aspect of a citizen's life, what kind of thinking or values was it written based on.
Is it true that the Constitution is meant to protect the rights and freedoms of individuals when we call for rights, equality, and freedom, thinking we are playing by the "rules"? Or is it, in fact, that those in power are playing by the "rules" that were written.
In reality, what exactly are these "rules" saying?
So, they both decided to put on swimsuits, print out the latest version of the Constitution, and flip through the more than 200 pages to see what is written in the supreme law of the land.
